The Village began upgrading the water and electric meters for the entire Village this September as part of its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project. This project is anticipated to span up to 18 months and reach every Winnetka utility customer.
The new advanced meters provide:
- Support of the Village’s environmental sustainability initiative.
- Enhanced identification of power outages and faster outage response.
- Improved leak detection capabilities.
- Long-term sustainability and smart grid integration.
- Real-time data versus manual door to door readings.
- Data accuracy and billing transparency.
- Reduced operational costs.
The Village has contracted with Honeywell International, Inc. to manage this deployment. Honeywell has worked with 1,000+ utilities and has installed over 150 million meters worldwide. Installation will be performed by a trained Honeywell technician working on behalf of the Village. We are currently in the pilot phase of the project which is anticipated to last through the end of the year. Most customers will have their meter replacements scheduled in 2026.
